The Mastermind archetype was what convinced me to buy City of Villains (I already owned Heroes). On paper it sounded great but for some reason it didn't pan out. I got fed up of joining groups with everyone being a Mastermind and although the zombies were cool, calling and buffing them every time I changed zone soon got old.
The name Doctor Doombrain comes from my team of Worms, for those who remember that game...
Backstory:
By day Doctor Tiberius Lestrange was a respected RESEARCHER at a pharmaceutical laboratory in Paragon City. By night he pored over centuries-old texts for information relating to the OCCULT. Theorising that he could use this new-found KNOWLEDGE in his work, Lestrange began his greatest EXPERIMENT...
Distracted by a pizza delivery, he missed vital data signs in his work ... with CATASTROPHIC results. An uncorrected quantum shift in the energy alignment of his apparatus caused the doctor's super-collider to SUPER-EXPLODE, destroying the laboratory in a blast which hurled Lestrange, UNCONSCIOUS, to the floor and incinerated his pizza.
A MYSTERIOUS cloud of energy engulfed Lestrange, delivering electric shocks to anyone who approached and thwarting their attempts to drag him from the inferno. But the energy cloud did not kill the doctor. Instead it granted him SUPERHUMAN strength and the ability to summon the UNDEAD.
Enraged, the man now known as DOCTOR DOOMBRAIN fled the scene...
